Cells need to adapt their growth and metabolism to the availability of resources and environmental cues. To do so, evolutionarily conserved, multi-protein complexes act via intricate signalling pathways to sense specific stimuli and transduce it to protein effectors. Failure to adequately couple environmental signals with cellular growth and metabolism is associated with diseases such as cancer and metabolic disorders.
Our group uses state of the art cryo-electron microscopy, biochemistry and cell biology to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which specific nutrients, growth factors, and other signals regulate cell growth and metabolism. By understanding how the involved protein complexes work, we aim to help in the development of novel and improved therapeutic strategies for the prevention and treatment of different types of cancer and associated diseases.
