Here at the CNIO we are concerned with the fundamentals of cancer, such as genes and the cellular processes involved in its development. As new therapeutic strategies and pharmaceutical treatments are introduced, it is a source of pride to be rated one of the most dynamic cancer research centers in the world, according to independent evaluators.
We want our research to broaden the therapeutic options available to cancer patients. To that end, we work in close association with clinical oncologists and other specialists. At the same time, we have a well-earned reputation for innovation, developing new patents, undertaking joint initiatives with the business community and creating spin-offs.
Our services are available to other scientists, whose prognostic and diagnostic skills enjoy our full support, as well as to the public at large. In the year 2018, for example, families from all over Spain took advantage of the genetic diagnosis service operated by our Familial Cancer Unit (1,624 genetic diagnoses were performed that year).
