A primary goal of the CNIO is to translate advances in basic and clinical research into clinical practice, ultimately leading to a more effective clinical management. To this end, it is essential to train medical doctors and other healthcare professionals in subjects related to the molecular basis of cancer as well as in the use of state-of-the art models and experimental systems in order to achieve a better understanding of the molecular events leading to cancer.

This training programme consists of three-month stays that provide hands-on laboratory experience within the different research groups at the CNIO. It offers R3, R4 and R5 Medical Oncology residents (MIR) and other practitioners specialised in any biomedical field related to cancer (BIR, FIR, QIR, etc.) the opportunity to join the CNIO, to participate in its research activities, as well as to attend CNIO seminars and conferences given by internationally renowned speakers; this is all made possible thanks to CNIO´s ability to provide the atmosphere of a globally recognised institute at the forefront of cancer research.

Laboratories accepting rotating residents include all the laboratories at the CNIO, both basic and translational research programmes. The allocation of candidates will be based on their research proposals and mutual interest. The final decision regarding the hosting of specific candidates will be made by the Group Leaders.

These stays are included in each Residency Rotation Programme and applications must be approved by the hospital´s Teaching Commission. At the end of the training period, the trainees should send a short report describing their research to the training office for CNIO records.
