Over the past year, the Molecular Diagnostics Unit (MDU) joined the recently founded Cancer Genomics Programme. Dedicated to delivering high-quality molecular tests for cancer patients within the Spanish National Health System (NHS), the MDU develops and updates sensitive assays to detect genetic alterations for early diagnosis, relapse monitoring, and the assessment of therapy response. The Unit is also committed to supporting CNIO Research Groups internally through sample analysis based on Sanger sequencing and technical expertise. Furthermore, the Unit contributes to national and international efforts to standardise and guarantee the quality of molecular diagnostic tests. Finally, committed to education and knowledge transfer, the MDU hosts and instructs students, technicians, and medical residents in molecular techniques, fostering skilled professionals and advancing cancer care.
