Ivana Zagorac was born on January 13, 1986 in Belgrade, Serbia, where she grew up and obtained her Diploma in Molecular Biology and Physiology at the University of Belgrade in July 2010.
During her period at college she participated in the summer training programme offered by CNIO. She was working at the laboratory of Dr. Manuel Serrano on a project that involved the study of tumor suppressor gene PTEN and it’s role in the regulation of circadian clock genes. Soon after her final degree she spent three-month internship in Dr. Ignacio Palmero’s laboratory at the Institute of Biomedical Research "Alberto Sols",Madrid, Spain, improving her laboratory skills.
In September 2011, she joined Dr. Miguel Angel Quintela’s laboratory as a PhD student supported by a La Caixa fellowship.
