The Cytogenetics unit makes use of conventional and molecular techniques to define the chromosomatic characteristics of various oncological and hematological processes and relate them to the patient’s clinical evolution. To that end, it works in close collaboration with other hospital services.

In addition to the probes widely used in diagnostic medicine, new probes have been developed that can detect genes suspected of involvement in tumor development and growth. We also assist clinical researchers with the expertise required to carry out the cytogenetic (cariotype) and molecular (Fish, etc.) assays that allow us to arrive at a comprehensive genetic diagnosis of the neoplasia.
