The CNIO obtains a very important part of its projects funding through public competitive calls, both at the governmental and regional level. It is worth highlighting the large number of projects and funding obtained in the different programs of the State R&D Plan managed by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), or those financed through the Strategic Action in Health of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII). Many of these programmes are cofounded through European Structural Funds (European Social Fund and European Regional Development Fund) and NextGeneration EU funds for the recovery from Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

On the other hand, we must highlight the contributions made by other private entities, such as foundations and charities, for the development of many of our projects based on research lines of their interest. In the CNIO, very relevant research projects in cancer are currently being developed thanks to the funding granted by entities such as the Scientific Foundation of the AECC, the ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation, the Oncology Research Foundation Fero, the BBVA Foundation or the Neurofibromatosis Project Foundation, among others.
