Inés Muñoz

Inés Muñoz obtained her M.Sc. degree in Chemistry in 1996 from the Universidad de Álcala (Madrid, Spain). She moved to Uppsala University (Uppsala, Sweden), in the Protein Crystallography group of Prof. T. Alwyn Jones. Under his supervision, she finished her Ph.D. in 2002 at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), after being awarded a contract from the Structural Biology Network of Sweden (SBNet). During her Ph.D., she obtained two fellowships from SBNet in 1998 and 1999, for training in molecular biology and biochemistry at the VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland. Helsinki, Finland). In 2002, she joined the CNIO Macromolecular Crystallography Group on a fellowship and in 2004 she was appointed a staff scientist. She was responsible for all crystallization and crystallography in the group, including co-supervision of PhD students and postdocs. She contributed to the co-direction of several projects including protein-DNA complexes, the design of new meganucleases (Nature, 2008; Nucleic Acids Res., 2011) and the 1 Mda chaperonine complex machine CCT (Nat. Struct. Mol. Biol. 2011; Trends Biochem. Sci. 2011). In 2011 she was awarded an EMBO fellowship to learn SAXS (small-angle X-ray scattering) at the Hauptmann-Woodward Medical Research Institute (Buffalo, USA) (Nat. Commun. 2014).
