[In Spanish] The need to increase spending on cancer research and to speed up the transfer of basic research to humans were two of the urgent demands put forward at the World Day Cancer Research Day event. The event, titled ‘A new era of cancer research: Towards the engagement of the entire society’, was organised by the CNIO to commemorate the World Cancer Research Day.

At the event, the audience enjoyed the talk ’Solving conundrums, fighting ailments, having fun with CRISPR’ by the keynote speaker Francis Mojica, Associate Professor of the Department of Physiology Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Alicante.

His talk was followed by a panel discussion on the challenges of cancer research and the necessary involvement of society to face them, with the participation of the CNIO Director Maria Blasco, Luis Paz-Ares, Head of the H12O-CNIO Lung Cancer Clinical Research Unit, Sandra Rodríguez-Perales, Head of the Molecular Cytogenetics Unit, and María Luisa Villafranca, breast cancer patient and president of the Asociación Rosae, members of CNIO Friends.
