On October 29, 2019, the 1st Gender Equality Event of the SOMMa Research Centers of Excellence was held at the CNIO. The event was organized by the CNIO Women in Science Office (WISE) in collaboration with the British Embassy.
After the welcome remarks from the SOMMa Directors, Maria Blasco (CNIO) and Patrizia Ziveri (ICTA), the WISE Coordinator Isabel López de Silanes and the British Ambassador Hugh Elliott, we had the keynote lecture by Cheryl Smythe (Babraham Institute, UK), who told us about the gender equality measurements already implemented in the Babraham, including the Athenas Swan award. Next, different SOMMa Directors and Chairs from SOMMa Gender Equality Offices spoke about successful actions in gender equality, scientific excellence and leadership in their institutions. The event was closed by Ana Puy, Director of the Women’s and Science Unit of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
