Maria Casanova-Acebes, head of the Cancer Immunity Group at the Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO), is now a full member of the Academia Joven de España. She received the medal that confirms her as such in a ceremony held this week at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM).

At the ceremony, the ten new academicians received their medals, joining the other 40 members of this institution, created in 2019.

All of them have been selected by an international panel external to the Academy, according to criteria of academic excellence and commitment to the aims of the institution. Their average age is 40 years and they have gathered 12 years of research experience since completing their doctorates.

Casanova-Acebes was one of the three researchers who closed the ceremony with their thank-you speeches.

Her work at the CNIO focuses on the identification and development of new strategies around the innate immune system in cancer. Her INN-TIME project, which seeks to take advantage of circadian rhythms in order to increase the efficacy of cancer treatments, has recently obtained funding from the European Research Council (ERC), the European institution that manages the most prestigious and competitive research programs in the European Union.
