Gonzalo Aizpurua de Arteche, Anabel Sáez Mas and Joseph Thomson, young researchers at the Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO), have obtained a fellowship from the “la Caixa” Foundation within the framework of the INPhINIT PhD program.

Gonzalo Aizpurua de Arteche, from CNIO’s Experimental Oncology Group, is researching on molecules that interact with the RAF1 protein, as a therapeutic strategy against lung adenocarcinoma generated by the KRAS oncogene, under the supervision of Mariano Barbacid and Sara García Alonso.

Anabel Sáez Mas, from the CNIO’s Genomic Instability Group, seeks to generate improved in vivo models for the C9 pathology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and use them to explore new strategies in the treatment of this incurable disease. His thesis director is Óscar Fernández-Capetillo.

Joseph Thompson, from the CNIO’s Computational Oncology Group, focuses his research on the origin of chromosomal instability, to help achieve clinical benefits for patients with some of the most lethal forms of cancer.

The “la Caixa” Foundation fellowship program will enable 105 researchers to develop their projects in Spain and Portugal, thanks to the 65 fellowship awarded under the INPhINIT PhD program and the 40 fellowship awarded under the Junior Leader postdoctoral program.
