CNIO researchers, ready to participate in the Madrid es Ciencia 2023 fair./Laura M. Lombardía. CNIO
“We do research to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer” is the slogan of the CNIO (Spanish National Cancer Research Center) stand at ‘Madrid is Science’, an outreach fair organized by the Community of Madrid and aimed especially at the educational community. It is part of the Education Week, the largest event of this kind in Spain, and many scientific, technological and innovation-related institutions are taking part.
It is held at IFEMA (Pavilion 5) from today, March 23 to Saturday March 25, from 10:00 to 20:00 hours. Admission is free. CNIO’s stand is 5E10 in Pavilion 5.
CNIO’s offer is creative, fun and educational. Visitors will find microscopes to observe samples of healthy and diseased tissue (melanoma, pancreatic cancer…). Also, they will be able to experience how skin lesions are studied in dermatology, thanks to a handy magnifying glass that allows the skin to be viewed at high magnification.
Moreover, there will be samples of preparations with a battery of antibodies used for diagnosis; an inverted microscope to observe cell lines in culture; and laboratory equipment to demonstrate everyday tasks, such as weighing, shaking, centrifugation, pH measurement and pipetting with different volumes.
And -the best part, no doubt – curious youngsters will encounter wonderful, inspiring researchers.
