On 6 June, the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) will be present in ‘Quantum’, an exhibition held at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), which will include a panel discussion about the CNIO Arte project with CNIO Director Maria A. Blasco; Begoña Gómez, third-sector expert and Co-Director of the Master’s Programme in Fundraising Management at the Complutense University of Madrid, where CNIO is a collaborator; Amparo Garrido, CNIO Arte curator and CNIO Coordinator of Institutional Image and Cultural Activity; and Carlos Jiménez, art critic, exhibition curator and author of Los rostros de Medusa: estudios sobre la retórica fotográfica, among other books.
CNIO Arte is an initiative undertaken by CNIO, funded by Banco Santander Foundation and supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) at the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. The aim of the project is to bring scientists and artists closer together, so that they can explore common ground. The second edition of CNIO Arte gathered photographer Chema Madoz, an internationally acclaimed conceptual artist, and quantum physicist Ignacio Cirac, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics. The photographer found inspiration in Cirac’s ideas on quantum physics to make a photograph. Then a series of 30 engravings were made of his photo to raise funds for cancer research at CNIO through the CNIO Friends initiative. To buy one of these prints, please write an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are in Barcelona and are interested in attending the panel discussion, please book your place here.
