[In Spanish] The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated on 11 February. On this day, which promotes equal opportunities in STEM courses and careers, CNIO (the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre) has launched the campaign Women Leading Science Together (“Juntas hacemos ciencia, únete a nosotras”), consisting of a video in which seven researchers, from various professional levels, explain what they love about working in research.

This campaign follows on from last year’s promotion on the same date, in which the directors of various CNIO departments encouraged girls to pursue careers in science. Both initiatives have been shared on social media via the hashtag #WomenInScience (#HazteCientífica).

With regards to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the head of CNIO, Maria A. Blasco, emphasised that, “True equality can only be reached in science when there are equal numbers of men and women leading scientific institutions”.

The head of CNIO appears in this video, alongside the researchers Eva González Suárez, Francisca Mulero, Neibla Priego, Bruna Calsina, Carmen Varela and Aleksandra Sirozh
