From the Institutional Image Office we would like to invite you to the inauguration and presentation of the CNIO Art 2024 edition that will take place on 20 February, from 12:00 to 13:30 in the Margarita Salas Auditorium of the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO). Dora García and David Nogués-Bravo, artist and scientist respectively of CNIO Arte this year; Borja Baselga, Director of the Banco Santander Foundation; María Blasco, Director of the CNIO and CNIO Arte, and Juan de Nieves, Director of the CNIO Institutional Image Office, will participate in the event. After the presentations, we will enjoy a screening of Dora García’s film END (two prologues) followed by a debate with all the participants.

CNIO Arte is a CNIO initiative supported by the Banco Santander Foundation, which promotes dialogue between artists and scientists in order to transmit the importance of science to society.

For this edition of CNIO Art 2024, we are pleased to present the couple formed by Dora García, winner of the National Prize for the Visual Arts 2021, and David Nogués-Bravo, macroecologist at the Globe Institute in Copenhagen. Under the theme of climate change and the loss of biodiversity, Dora García has created an audiovisual piece END (two prologues), based on the trip to the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic that the scientist and the artist undertook together.

In line with CNIO Arte 2024, the 5th Art and Science Symposium, entitled “Art, science and ecology in the face of climate change”, will be held on 21 February at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. During the conference, we will have the participation of experts Carlos Jiménez, Professor Emeritus of Aesthetics at the European University of Madrid, historian and art critic; Esther Pizarro, multidisciplinary artist, researcher and Professor at the European University of Madrid; Anna Traveset, biologist and researcher at the CSIC; Jaime Vindel, art and culture historian and researcher at the CSIC; Dora García, professor of contemporary art and winner of the 2021 National Plastic Arts Award; and David Nogués-Bravo, specialist in macroecology, researcher and professor at the Globe Institute of the University of Copenhagen. After their presentations, the speakers, together with the Director and Curator of CNIO Arte, Maria Blasco and Juan de Nieves, respectively, will participate in a round table discussion in which they will establish an enriching reflective dialogue in an attempt to shed light on the transcendental subject matter proposed, from their different disciplines and perspectives.

The CNIO will once again have its own exhibition stand (9B29) at the ARCO Contemporary Art Fair from 6 to 10 March. CNIO Arte 2024 will be presented at ARCO on 8 March at 4pm.
