The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) is one of the top leading cancer research institutes in Europe, hosting world-renowned scientists that have made significant contributions in both basic and translational aspects of cancer biology. The CNIO is seeking to recruit a Director for a novel research programme dedicated to Cancer Genomics. We are looking for a highly motivated world leading scientist with a strong research background, to lead and coordinate several Research Groups working of the fields of human cancer genetics and epidemiology, as well as in genomics and proteomics bioinformatic analysis applied to both basic and translational research in oncology.
The main duties of the Programme Director would be:
• Setting up and developing research priorities within the Programme, including the coordination of the existing Research Groups, the recruitment of new talent, and the investment in the strategic research goals of the Programme, working closely with the CNIO Director and Vice-Director.
• Playing a critical role in fostering and coordinating educational/training activities within the Programme.
• The Programme Director is also expected to set up and lead a competitive research group in any aspect of cancer research aligned with the strategic goals of the Programme.
• Representing the Programme in the CNIO Programme Directors Committee and any other internal committee, as well as in internal or external meetings, as necessary.
Applicants should hold a PhD degree in life sciences (biology, chemistry, biochemistry, medicine, or similar), with special preference for the cancer research field.

Criterios de evaluación

• More than 10 years’ experience in scientific research as an independent Group Leader in oncology, particularly focused on computational biology, systems biology, human cancer genetics and genomics or related fields.
• An outstanding publication record in peer-reviewed international journals, including relevant contributions in high impact factor journals.
• Demonstrated track record in obtaining funding through national and international competitive calls.
• National and international leadership in scientific research in oncology.
• Experience in the supervision of students (PhD, MSc) and staff in training.
• Excellent leadership and management skills.
• Ability to communicate and establish effective collaborations with other researchers and institutions.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Relevant activities in innovation and in the transference of results to the productive sector will be valued, as well as previous experience in science management roles, such as department chair, panel membership of national or international funding agencies, participation in scientific advisory boards and alike.
