Periodic quality controls of each Associated Centre and the central database will be carried out with the aim of avoiding any possible break down in the system.

These controls will specifically monitor:

• The identification and conservation of samples.
• Suitability of the fixation or freezing methods.
• Equipment Maintenance.
• Transcription and validation of data.
• Access code control.

These quality controls will also apply to the central office of the TBN, with particular importance placed upon the mechanism for encoding variables, the validation of data, and access code control. It is envisaged that the Central Office will be run under an established quality control system that complies with the ISO 9000:2001 standard.
