Clinical and Patological Data

Basic data surrounding the processing and preservation conditions for each case will be sent to the central office of the Bank, which under no circumstances will reveal the identity of the patient.

To respect confidentiality, each hospital will devise a special coding system, to ensure that the identity of the patient will remain exclusively within the hospital itself and not in the central database of the Tissue Bank Network. The necessary data will be as follows:

I. Identification data
  • Hospital.
  • Local case code.
  • Date of birth.
  • Sex.
II. Pathology Data
  • Date of anatomogical and pathological study.
  • Time of sample deposit in the Pathology Dept.
  • Anatomical location of neoplastic process.
  • Complete pathological diagnosis.
  • Histological grade.
  • Stage (pTNM etc.).
  • Primary or relapse tumour
  • Material available.
  • Sample type (biopsy, autopsy material, etc.).
III. Other data
  • Indication of whether material is likely to be infected by highly contagious agents (HIV, HBV, HCV, EBV, etc.). Previous treatments that might influence the results of the molecular studies: Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc.

  • The Tumour Bank Network does not guarantee access to any other additional data. If more information is necessary to carry out a specific project a request must be sent to the respective clinical services, who will be able to authorise access following - if necessary - positive confirmation from the Ethical and Clinical Research Committee of each Associated Hospital

  • Data from each case will be collected by the Associated Hospitals and included in a specially designed database. This data will be sent via secure telephone line to the central office of the TBN where it will be checked to ensure that it matches the contents of the central database.

  • The morphological and topographic encoding of cases will be carried out exclusively in the central office using the SNOMED and CIE-O encoding systems, with modifications. These modified codes may be examined in Annexe 3 (available in the near future).
