The Ministry of Health of the regional government of Madrid and the CNIO present a program of genetic counseling in familial cancer.

On the 4th of July 2001, the CNIO signed an agreement with the Community of Madrid to develop a pilot program of Genetic Counseling in Familial Cancer. Objective of this agreement is that a point of reference exist in the Community of Madrid to which clinicians can send all those patients or families with suspected hereditary cancer, so that they can be evaluated, advised, and studied whenever it is possible from a genetic or cytogenetic point of view, and to be able to adopt preventive measures. The agreement is going to finance the studies so that the bureaucratic aspects are eliminated and the speed of access to these studies by the population at risk is increased to the maximum.
